Life as a white belt

Please leave your ego beside your shoes before entering the mat, thank you…

It’s been a year now since I started my bjj journey, there’s been a lot of ups and downs, at the beggining mostly downs… but then it got better.
You as well get better with time, but by itself a white belt at the end of the day no matter how good a day is, you are still a white belt. I have one lone stripe on my belt, some days I believe I deserve more others I realize how far my journey still is. I changed my diet, I train five days a week and now I gotta step up my game, I know what I must do, focus my diet a little further towards my sport and extra cardio. Saturdays and Sunday’s will be jogging days and I wanna do small sessions of rope jumping at least three times a week. I don’t wanna gas out any more.
You can’t be inpatient in jiu jitsu, you need to hold on like those cats in the poster’s at your office if you wanna move on and keep in mind that it’s a long distance sport, all acomplishments will come in time. But for now hold tight to that white belt with honor, no matter how hard your day at the mat was tomorrow you get to do it again.
I had some pretty bad days, submitted more than five times in one round, hurt my ankles, gotten kicked in the face and that one time when I choked myself…
You don’t know that story? It’s embarrassing…
I was wrestling this guy, tried to choke him, grabbed my own gi and choked my self, he laughed his ass off it was horrible, hilarious but horrible…
But I made great friend’s in this year trainning as well, had days when I taught I could conquer the world, did one tournament, lost but learned so much and I was so proud of making weight and preparing for it.

I’ve seen myself and the people around me grow into stronger fighters, that makes me proud as well for them and for the succes of our gym, I can only hope to win a little more like my entram brothers.
I wanna be stronger, faster, leaner, more flexible, like a bobcat!!! And there’s only one way to get there…
try harder.
